(2019·绵阳第一次诊断) Road trip

Motorhome delivery offers great family holidays. For just $1 a day, you can hire a fullyequipped motorhome, which delivers you to a

specific destination within some days and kilometers. You then hire another one to get home or take a bus or train. Your only other expense will be fuel and about $20 a day for parking fees. To learn more, visit apollocamper. com.

Plan ahead

For a comfortable break, flexibility with times, dates and places helps lower the cost. Find a few hotels you like, ask about their vacant rooms, then wait a few weeks and call again. If they still have rooms, you’re at an advantage to ask for a better price.Lots of lastminute deals are online. Watif(watif. com. au) has deals on hotels that have dropped their prices so low. You don’t know where you’re staying until it’s booked, but anywhere with four or five stars has to be fairly good.

Back to nature

Wild camping appeals to nature lovers and costs nothing. This is forbidden on beaches and parks in most urban areas, but you can turn up in more distant areas as long as nobody owns the land. You’ll need to take everything with you and may need to shop on eBay(ebay. com. au). If you’re a camping beginner, be aware of safety measures and get your questions answered on the Internet.

Swap meet

How about a home swap? For a $ 250 yearly joining cost, you can stay in someone’s home in an international place of your choice while they or someone else stays in yours. Find out more at familylink. com. au.

(2019·安徽重点中学高三联考)When asked to describe Comfort Zone Camp in one word, I realized this can be extremely difficult to do. As I think about this question, one word that constantly comes to mind is family. When my mom passed away three years ago, a piece of my family was unexpectedly torn away from me. There are numerous memories filling my mind, making missing my mom extremely hard. Thankfully, I have found support and encouragement in friends throughout the past three years and in new family members every day. Comfort Zone Camp has provided me with additional family members that have been one of the best support systems I could ever ask for.

While nothing could ever replace my mom, every time I go the Camp I find my camp family grows a little bigger, making it a bit easier for me to deal with my loss. Since starting to volunteer at Comfort Zone Camp I have met so many amazing people. I will never forget meeting my very first friend. Not only did we look alike, but there were many times when staff members would

confuse our names. From then on we loved joking around and referring to ourselves as sisters while purposely dressing alike.

Every child that comes to the Camp just wants to be loved. They want you to play games with them, laugh with them and comfort them if needed. They want someone to respect their memories, tears, and hopes for the future. We are asked to meet these children where they are and help them discover where they want to go from there. At last, they’ll describe the Camp through the word family, or even better, with one word that is incredibly unique to their own experience.

the Arctic Circle and around 90 minutes from Helsinki, the destination is made up of 24 rooms—10 of which are suites for guests staying overnight.

Temperatures reach -5℃ inside, so highquality thermal(保暖的) sleeping bags are on hand to keep guests warm, as well as a hot berry juice in the morning. (2019·陕西部分学校摸底检测)A principal in Manhattan informed parents that there would be no more homework for the public school’s students. And then came the arguments—not from teachers, but from parents. Some said they would transfer their children to another school.

Some said they were finding online sources of homework for their children. They were not convinced of the explanation from Principal Jane Hsu about the negative effects of homework on young children, including lack of time for other activities and family time, and loss of interest in learning. Hsu suggested children should spend their time on activities that had been found to be good for their academic, social and emotional development.

As a supporter of Hsu’s approach, I wonder how many of the parental arguments occur not because of what children will miss out on, but because parents themselves no longer feel confident about their ability to help their children develop without highly structured activities to guide them.

I’m reminded of a meeting at the school my younger daughter was about to start when she was 6. The head of the school met with parents to say that she was also considering doing away with homework. One mom objected because homework was her “special time” each day with her child when they could sit down together to go through the work. The head of the school appeared surprised at this. She gently suggested that the mother should read to her child, or that they should cook dinner together.

It’s been sad already to see that kids, between their structured soccer practices and their homework, have very little time to play. But it’s even sadder to see the parental nervousness about what might happen to a thirdgrader who has more time to create, think, read, interact with others, or imagine. What might happen, I believe, must be more happiness, more energy and better physical fitness.

B 解析:细节理解题。由第一段中的“And then came the arguments—not from teachers, but from parents.”可知,不再布置家庭作业的做法在家长中引起了激烈的讨论,故选B项。

13.Why did one mom object to the idea of no homework for kids? A.Her child might lose interest in learning. B.Her child might have less time to think.

C.She enjoyed the time doing homework with her child. D.Homework is good for children’s academic development.

C 解析:细节理解题。由第三段中的“One mom objected because homework was her ‘special time’ each day with her child when they could sit down together to go through the work.”可知,与孩子一块儿做作业对这位母亲来说是件让她高兴的事,所以她反对取消家庭作业这一想法,故选C。

14.What is the author’s attitude towards Principal Jane Hsu’s suggestion? A.Indifferent. C.Negative.

B.Positive. D.Critical.
