[Also in DivisionsB8 and H5] A hollow article is formed from a heated blank 21, of synthetic plasticsmaterial, by clamping the blank about the mouth of a split mould 30, 32, drawing theblank using cooperating heated plungers 92, 60 and finally expanding the drawn blankinto conformity with the mould. During the co-ordinated drawing movement of theplungers, the upper plunger 92 is moved relatively towards the lower plunger 60 toexpress material from therebetween, which material forms the lower regions of the wallof the finished container and has a high degree of molecular orientation impartedthereto. The final separation of the two plungers determines the ultimate wall andbottom thickness of the finished article. The blank may be expanded by a pressure fluid,e.g. air, an expandable bag of e.g. polyurethane (see Figs. 14, 15, not shown), or by adeformable solid, e.g. rubber, carried about the lower plunger as in Figs. 16 and 17 (notshown). The blank may carry already formed ports at its periphery (Figs. 28 and 19, notshown), which ports are not drawn but are clamped under slight pressure to impart asmall degree of orientation thereto and are retained upon the finished article in a
substantially unaltered state. The face of each plunger comprises a smooth metal cover116, separated by a film of low heat conductive material 123 from high frequencyresistance wires 118, themselves embedded in a cloth of e.g. P.T.F.E. 119 which is
separated by a layer of glass cloth 121 from the body of the plunger (Fig. 13, not shown).
