Cultural Differences
We have seen several films in this term. While, what gives me the most impression is guasha. This movie teaches me much knowledge about China and American culture. I like history culture and have read many books about Chinese and some other countries. Of course, one of the reasons is my English teacher’s effect. This interesting makes me learn of
a lot of knowledge.
GuaSha is a movie about the differences between American and Chinese culture. The theme of GuaSha tell us an objective fact that many foreigners are facing cultural difference, even if some cultural conflict. Therefore, many things that we considering impossible happened around the world.
XuDatong is a video game designer. When his father visits from the far
China, he makes GuaSha (a Chinese traditional treatment) in his grandson, who is considered as a common way and an effective method in the china leads red marks to the skin and causes a lawsuit of child abuse. In this court, XuDatong want to tell opposition lawyer this is a Chinese traditional treatment while it seems that way is very hand to explain every produce detailed about GuaSha. In This scene that he says what his son’s happened was he done is shocking .But the most impressing scene to me is the ending. Datong wants to see his son in Christmas Eve; he has to climb the ninth floor which his son
lives. I think the pipe is not only a pipe, but also is the differences Culture, a deep gap between American and Chinese culture. As
English
teacher
says
he wants to climb over the gap and he will never succeed, perhaps Chinese people really couldn’t succeed.
Gua Sha is a treatment in traditional oriental medicine in which a wooden board repeatedly slides across the patient’s acupuncture massage points. It works in similar principles like that of acupuncture massage. This method would inevitably leave bruise on the skin, and the story begins here, when theDatong’s0father who does not speak any English used this traditional practice to treat the grandson when both son and 0daughter-in-law were at work. Of course every Chinese would accept this.
Sadly, this is a story that repeats itself many times. In the area where many oriental immigrants’ lives and all of these are due to simple misunderstanding between the cultures that the each other country is just on the contrary. If an acupuncturist is trained in Classical Chinese medicine, they will do
this technique in their practice for pain, and for acute or chronic illness. So, on the one hand ,we must wide our knowledge heroine in case of we see the same thing in the future. On the other hand, we will translate our old culture to the world. If the majority of people know our culture, the misunderstand will not happen.
