2. Pharmacists, chemists, biochemists, microbiologists, medical laboratory technologists and physicians can all be involved in some area of pharmaceutical analysis. During the early sixties the automated analysis in both the pharmaceutical industry and the universities lagged behind the progess made, for example, in hospital clinical chemistry laboratories. However, the extent of automation in pharmaceutical analysis has increased very substantially these years.
One of the dictionary definitions of the word ‘automate’ is ‘to convert to largely automatic operation’; similarly, the definition of automation includes ‘automatically controlled operation of an apparatus process or system by mechanical or electronic devices that take place of human argans or observation, effort and decision’.
