15. 【C15】 A.where B.this C.which D.that
分析句子结构可知,at______you want to be wakened是一个定语从句,修饰前面的the latest time。
16. 【C16】 A.then B.also C.almost D.yet
17. 【C17】 A.claim
B.conclusion C.concept D.explanation

Section II Reading Comprehension
Part ADirections: Read the following four texts. Answer the questions below each text by choosing A, B, C or D. (40 points)
The January fashion show, called FutureFashion, exemplified how far green design has come. Organized by the New York-based nonprofit Earth Pledge, the show inspired many top designers to work with sustainable fabrics for the first time. Several
have since made pledges to include organic fabrics in their lines. The designers who undertake green fashion still face many challenges. Scott Hahn, cofounder with Gregory of Rogan and Loomstate, which uses all-organic cotton, says high-quality sustainable materials can still be tough to find. “Most designers with existing labels are finding there aren’t comparable fabrics that can just replace what you’re doing and what your customers are used to,” he says. For example, organic cotton and non-organic cotton are virtually indistinguishable once woven into a dress. But some popular synthetics, like stretch nylon, still have few eco-friendly equivalents. Those who do make the switch are finding they have more support. Last year the influential trade show Designers & Agents stopped charging its participation fee for young green entrepreneurs who attend its two springtime shows in Los Angeles and New York and gave special recognition to designers whose collections are at least 25% sustainable. It now counts more than 50 green designers, up from fewer than a dozen two years ago. This week Wal-Mart is set to announce a major initiative aimed at helping cotton farmers go organic : it will buy transitional (过渡性的) cotton at higher prices, thus helping to expand the supply of a key sustainable material. “Mainstream is about to occur,” says Hahn. Some analysts are less sure. Among consumers, only 18% are even aware that ecofashion exists, up from 6% four years ago. Natalie Hormilla, a fashion writer, is an example of the unconverted consumer. When asked if she owned any sustainable clothes, she replied: “Not that I’m aware of.” Like most consumers, she finds little time to shop, and when she does, she’s on the hunt for “cute stuff that isn’t too expensive.” By her own admission, green just isn’t yet on her mind. But—thanks to the combined efforts of designers, retailers and suppliers—one day it will be.
21. What is said about Future Fashion?
A.It inspired many leading designers to start going green. B.It showed that designers using organic fabrics would go far.
C.It served as an example of how fashion shows should be organized.
D.It convinced the public that fashionable clothes should be made durable.
由此可知,A项为正确答案,其中的leading designers对应文中的top designers,going green对应work with sustainable fabrics。
22. According to Scott Hahn, one big challenge to designers who will go organic is that_________.
A.much more time is needed to finish a dress using sustainable materials B.they have to create new brands for clothes made of organic materials C.customers have difficulty telling organic from non-organic materials
D.quality organic replacements for synthetics are not readily available
D项的are not readily available对应文中的still be tough to find、there aren’t和still have few。
23. We learn from Paragraph 3 that designers who undertake green fashion_________.
A.can attend various trade shows free
B.are readily recognized by the fashion world C.can buy organic cotton at favorable prices D.are gaining more and more support
24. What is Natalie Hormilla’s attitude toward ecofashion? A.She doesn’t seem to care about it. B.She doesn’t think it is sustainable. C.She is doubtful of its practical value. D.She is very much opposed to the idea.
25. What does the author think of green fashion? A.Green products will soon go mainstream. B.It has a very promising future. C.Consumers have the final say.
D.It will appeal more to young people.
If you know exactly what you want, the best route to a job is to get specialized training. A recent survey shows that companieslike the graduates in such fields as business and health care who can go to work immediately with very little on-the-job training. That’s especially true of booming fields that are challenging for workers. At Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration, for example, bachelor’s degree graduates get an average of four or five job offers with salaries ranging from the high teens to the low 20s and plenty of chances for rapid advancement. Large companies, especially, like a background of formal education coupled with work experience. But in the long run, too much specialization doesn’t pay off. Business, which has been flooded with MBAs, no longer considers the degree an automatic stamp of approval. The MBA may open doors and command a higher salary initially, but the impact of a degree washes out after five years. As further evidence of the erosion of corporate faith in specialized degrees, Michigan State’s Scheetz cites a pattern in corporate hiring practices. Although companies tend to take on specialists as new hires, they often seek out generalists for middle-and upper-level management. “They want someone who isn’t constrained by nuts and bolts to look at the big picture,” says Scheetz. This sounds suspiciously like a formal statement that you approve of the liberal-arts graduate. Time and again labor-market analysts mention a need for talents that liberal-arts majors are assumed to have: writing and communication skills, organizational skills, open-mindedness and adapt-ability, and the ability to analyze and solve problems. David Birch claims he does not hire anybody with an MBA or an engineering degree. “I hire only liberal-arts people because they have a less-than-canned way of doing things,” says Birch. Liberal-arts means an academically thorough and strict program that includes literature, history, mathematics, economics, science, human behavior—plus a computer course or two. With that under your belt, you can feel free to specialize. “A liberal-arts degree coupled with an MBA or some other technical training is a very good combination in the marketplace,” says Scheetz.
26. What kinds of people are in high demand on the job market? A.Students with a bachelor’s degree in humanities. B.People with an MBA degree from top universities. C.People with formal schooling plus work experience. D.People with special training in engineering.
Large companies,
especially, like a back ground of formal education coupled with work experience(coupled with意思是“以及,加上”)。
27. By saying “... but the impact of a degree washes out after five years” (Para. 3) , the author means_________.
A.most MBA programs fail to provide students with a solid foundation B.an MBA degree does not help promotion to managerial positions
C.MBA programs will not be as popular in five years’ time as they are now D.in five years people will forget about the degree the MBA graduates have got
28. According to Scheetz’s statement (Para. 4) , companies prefer_________. A.people who have a strategic mind B.people who are talented in fine arts
C.people who are ambitious and aggressive
D.people who have received training in mechanics
They want someone who isn’t constrained by nuts and bolts to look at the big picture。
29. David Birch claims that he only hires liberal-arts people because_________. A.they are more capable of handling changing situations B.they can stick to established ways of solving problems
C.they are thoroughly trained in a variety of specialized fields D.they have attended special programs in management
答题依据在文章最后一段“I hire only liberal—arts people because they have a less-than-canned way of doing things”。
30. Which of the following statements does the author support? A.Specialists are more expensive to hire than generalists. B.Formal schooling is less important than job training. C.On-the-job training is, in the long run, less costly. D.Generalists will outdo specialists in management.
For hundreds of millions of years, turtles(海龟) have struggled out of the sea to lay their eggs on sandy beaches, long before there were nature documentaries to celebrate them, or GPS satellites and marine biologists to track them, or volunteers to hand-carry the hatchlings (幼龟) down to the water’s edge lest they become disoriented by headlights and crawl towards a motel parking lot instead. A formidable wall of bureaucracy has been erected to protect their prime nesting sites on the Atlantic coastlines. With all that attention paid to them, you’d think these creatures would at least have the gratitude not to go extinct. But Nature is indifferent to human notions of fairness, and a report by the Fish and Wildlife Service showed a worrisome drop in the populations of several species of North Atlantic sea turtles, notably loggerheads(红海龟) , which can grow to as much as 400 pounds. The South Florida nesting population, the largest, has declined by 50% in the last decade, according to Elizabeth Griffin, a marine biologist with the environmental group Oceana. The figures prompted Oceana to petition the government to upgrade the level of protection for the North Atlantic loggerheads from “threatened” to “endangered”—meaning they are in danger of disappearing without additional help. Which raises the obvious question; what else do these turtles want from us, anyway? It turns out, according to Griffin, that while we have done a good job of protecting the turtles for the weeks they spend on land (as egg-laying females, as eggs and as hatchlings) , we have neglected the years they spend in the ocean. “The threat is from commercial fishing,” says Griffin. Trawlers (which drag large nets through the water and along the ocean floor) and long-line fishers (which can deploy thousands of hooks on lines that can stretch for miles) take a heavy toll(损失) on turtles. Of course, like every other environmental issue today, this is playing out against the background of global warming and human interference with natural ecosystems. The narrow strips of beach on which the turtles lay their eggs are being squeezed on one side by development and on the other by the threat of rising sea levels as the oceans warm. Ultimately we must get a handle on those issues as well, or a creature that outlived the dinosaurs (恐龙) will meet its end at the hands of humans, leaving our descendants to wonder how a creature so ugly could have won so much affection.
31. We can learn from the first paragraph that_________. A.human activities have changed the way turtles survive B.efforts have been made to protect turtles from dying out
C.government bureaucracy has contributed to turtles’ extinction
D.marine biologists are looking for the secret of turtles’ reproduction
32. What does the author mean by “Nature is indifferent to human notions of fairness” (Line 1 , Para. 2)?
A.Nature is quite fair regarding the survival of turtles. B.Turtles are by nature indifferent to human activities.
C.The course of nature will not be changed by human interference. D.The turtle population has decreased in spite of human protection.
33. What constitutes a major threat to the survival of turtles according to Elizabeth Griffin?
A.Their inadequate food supply. B.Unregulated commercial fishing. C.Their lower reproductive ability. D.Contamination of sea water.
34. How does global warming affect the survival of turtles? A.It threatens the sandy beaches on which they lay eggs.
B.The changing climate makes it difficult for their eggs to hatch.
C.The rising sea levels make it harder for their hatchlings to grow. D.It takes them longer to adapt to the high beach temperature.
35. The last sentence of the passage is meant to_________. A.persuade human beings to show more affection for turtles B.stress that even the most ugly species should be protected C.call for effective measures to ensure sea turtles’ survival D.warn our descendants about the extinction of species
While still catching up to men in some fields of modern life, women appear to be far ahead in at least one undesirable aspect. “Women are particularly liable to developing depression and anxiety disorders in response to stress compared to men.” according to Dr. Yehuda, chief psychiatrist at New York’s Veteran’s Administration Hospital. Studies of both animals and humans have shown that sex hormone (荷尔蒙) somehow affect the stress response, causing females under stress to produce more of the trigger chemicals than do males under the same conditions. In several of the studies, when stressed-out female rats had their ovaries (the female reproductive organs) removed, their chemical responses became equal to those of the males. Adding to a woman’s increased dose of stress chemicals, are her increased “opportunities” for stress. “It’s not necessarily that women don’t cope as well. It’s just that they have so much more to cope with.” says Dr. Yehuda. “Their capacity for tolerating stress may even be greater than men’s,” she observes, “it’s just that they’re dealing with so many more things that they become worn out from it more visibly and sooner. “ Dr. Yehuda notes another difference between the sexes. “ I think that the kinds of things that women are exposed to tend to be in a chronic or repeated nature. Men go to war and are exposed to combat stress. Men are exposed to more acts of random physical violence. The kinds of interpersonal violence that women are exposed to tend to be in domestic situations, by, unfortunately, parents or other family members, and they tend not to be one-shot deals. The wear-and-tear that comes from these longer relationships can be quite devastating. “ Adeline Alvarez married at 18 and gave birth to a son, but was determined to finish college. “I struggled a lot to
get the college degree. I was living in so much frustration that that was my escape, to go to school, and get ahead and do better. “ Later, her marriage ended and she became a single mother. “ It’s the hardest thing to take care of a teenager, have a job, pay the rent, pay the car payment, and pay the debt. I lived from paycheck to paycheck. Not everyone experiences the kinds of severe chronic stresses Alvarez describes. But most women today are coping with a lot of obligations, with few breaks, and feeling the strain. Alvarez’s experience demonstrates the importance of finding ways to diffuse stress before it threatens your health and your ability to function.
36. Which of the following is true according to the first two paragraphs? A.Women are biologically more vulnerable to stress. B.Women are still suffering much stress caused by men.
C.Women are more experienced than men in coping with stress.
D.Men and women show different inclinations when faced with stress.
37. Dr. Ychuda’s research suggests that women_________. A.need extra doses of chemicals to handle stress B.have limited capacity for tolerating stress C.are more capable of avoiding stress D.are exposed to more stress
38. According to Paragraph 4, the stress women confront tends to be_________.
A.domestic and temporary B.irregular and violent C.durable and frequent D.trivial and random
39. The sentence “I lived from paycheck to paycheck. “(Para. 5) shows that_________.
A.Alvarez cared about nothing but making money
B.Alvarez’s salary barely covered her household expenses C.Alvarez got paychecks from different jobs D.Alvarez paid practically everything by check
40. Which of the following would be the best title for the text? A.Strain of Stress: No Way Out?
B.Response to Stress: Gender Difference C.Stress Analysis; What Chemicals Say? D.Gender Inequality: Women Under Stress

social pressures of the academic and literary communities, is a relatively recent concept. Such social pressures and copyright laws require writers to give scrupulous attention to documentation of their sources. 【R2】______ Students, as inexperienced scholars themselves, must avoid various types of plagiarism by being self-critical in their use of other scholars’ ideas and by giving appropriate credit for the source of borrowed ideas and words, otherwise dire(可怕的) consequences may occur. There are at least three classifications of plagiarism as it is revealed in students’ inexactness in identifying sources properly. They are plagiarism by accident, by ignorance, and by intention. 【R3】______ Plagiarism by accident, or oversight, sometimes is the result of the writer’s inability to decide or remember where the idea came from. He may have read it long ago, heard it in a lecture since forgotten, or acquired it second-hand or third-hand from discussions with colleagues. He may also have difficulty in deciding whether the idea is such common knowledge that no reference to the original source is needed. Although this type of plagiarism must be guarded against, it is the least serious and, if lessons learned, can be exempt(被免除……的) from being severely punished. 【R4】______Plagiarism through ignorance is simply a way of saying that inexperienced writers often do not know how or when to acknowledge their sources. The techniques for documentation-note-taking, quoting, footnoting, listing bibliography—are easily learned and can prevent the writer from making unknowing mistakes or omissions in his references. Although “there is no copyright in news, or in ideas, only in the expression of them,” the writer cannot plead (为……辩护) ignorance when his sources for ideas are challenged. 【R5】______ The most serious kind of academic thievery is plagiarism by intention. The writer, limited by his laziness and dullness, copies the thoughts and language of others and claims them for his own. He not only steals, he tries to deceive the reader into believing the ideas are original. Such words as immoral, dishonest, offensive, and despicable are used to describe the practice of plagiarism by intention. The opposite of plagiarism is acknowledgement. All mature and trustworthy writers make use of the ideas of others but they are careful to acknowledge their indebtedness to their sources. Students, as developing scholars, writers, teachers, and professional leaders, should recognize and assume their responsibility to document all sources from which language and thoughts are borrowed. Other members of the profession will not only respect the scholarship, they will admire the humility and honesty.
41. 【R1】
其中can be forgiven对应原文中的can be exempt from being severely punished。
44. 【R4】
Part CDirections: Read the following text carefully and then translate the underlined segments into Chinese. (10 points)
46. Drinking water and water for domestic use often come from groundwater. In order to protect this water, local water authorities can apply to local administrative authorities to mark certain locations as water protection areas. The size
of these areas is calculated in such a way that the quantity of groundwater taken from them corresponds to the actual rainfall going into them. In the water protection areas certain uses of the land and activities on the land are banned or restricted. Water protection areas fall into three zones. Zone 3 is the outermost zone with a diameter of 4 kilometers around the groundwater well. Here no chemical works or the use of pesticides(杀虫剂) are allowed. Zone 2 is determined around the so-called 50-day line. It is assumed that after 50 days in the groundwater harmful bacteria will have died off. Here settlements and fertilizer storage are forbidden. Zone 1 marks the ten-meter boundary around the well. Here, any use of the land, as well as access by unauthorized persons, is forbidden.

Part BDirections: Write an essay of 160-200 words based on the following information. (20 points)
48. Write an essay based on the following chart on people’s perception of shopping websites. In your writing, you should 1) interpret the chart, and 2) give your comments. You should write about 150 words on ANSWER SHEET 2. (15 points)
As is clearly shown in the chart, the means of people perceiving shopping websites vary from person to person. According to the data given in the chart, we can see that about 56% of the people know about shopping websites via the Internet, those who know about shopping websites from their friends account for about 25%, and the rest perceive them by other means. It’s not difficult for me to find out some factors to account for the above-mentioned phenomenon. First and foremost of all, with the improvement of people’s living standards, the Internet plays an increasingly important role in our daily life. What’s more, there is no doubt that the Internet is making our life become more convenient, so more and more people prefer to know about various aspects via the Internet. Last but not the least, more and more companies have realized the power of the Internet, so they look on the Internet as the most effective means to promote themselves. Taking all these factors into consideration, we may reasonably predict that the present situation will continue for quite a while in the forthcoming years. And if this change can be kept and guided properly, our life as well as our society will be made better.
