14、It is reported that some developed countries have shipped broken parts of computers to China. Last month Hong Kong officers found 131,000 kilograms of broken computers, TVs and phones sent from Japan.
Things like these are called electronic waste, or e-waste. Dealing with it is not an easy job. Every time an old computer breaks down, it needs to be dealt with safely. But at present, broken computer parts are usually buried. It may be hundreds of years before they are really going in the earth(泥土).
Many places in China are polluted by e-waste. Guiyu in Guangdong Province is one of them. This town is named as “the e-waste capital of the world”. Many of the poisons(有毒物) in e-waste find their way into the environment. Plastic is burned outdoors and chemical water is poured into rivers. Greenpeace, an environmental group, has found the air, the earth and the rivers in Guiyu badly polluted.
The Chinese government wants the country to develop, but we should find a way that isn’t harmful to the environment and people’s life. This year, China makes a new environment protection law, the strictest one we have ever had. Computer companies like Lenovo and Dell will be asked to take back their old computers. 17、阅读下列短文,从每题A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出一个能回答所提问题或完成所给句子的最佳答案。 It is really a happy thing to look back on the days I spent with Jennie. We met in night school. After Jennie and I had completed the required courses, we started teaching in the same school. For a time we were just casual friends, but one day, when I was telling Jennie about my problem son, we discovered we were kindred (同类的) spirits. \"He’s a difficult little character,\" I explained. Jennie looked thoughtful. \"Maybe you’re only seeing him with your eyes.\" She was silent
for a moment and then added softly, \"It is only with the heart that one sees rightly.\" I stared at her. \"You’re quoting (引用) that! It’s from The Little Prince, Saint-Exupery’s book for children, one of my favorites. You know it, too?\" Jennie nodded. \"I love it. I’ve read it so often. I’ve practically memorized it.\"
Now, when I think of Jennie, I recall that book because Jennie —more than anyone I know —possessed the gift of seeing with the heart.
From that moment of a treasured book shared, our friendship grew steadily. It wasn’t that I didn’t have an excellent relationship with my husband and son, but my mother had died shortly after my marriage, and I had neither sisters nor daughters. I realize, now, how I needed someone to share those little, seemingly unimportant things that add so much to life —things that must be shared to be fully appreciated.
And it was Jennie who helped me with my fourth-grade problem child. One day I was at my wit’s end. \"What he needs is a good beating!\" I exploded.
\"He’s probably had plenty of those,\" Jennie said. \"Maybe he just needs sincere praise for anything he does right, and a hug or two each day.\" I followed this suggestion, and eventually, because of Jennie, I discovered a lovable little boy. Looking back, I have to admit that she taught me so much. The days I spent with her has become one of my happiest memories.
1.What does the underlined part mean in the fourth paragraph? A.I was unsure of how to treat my son. B.I decided to give up my job. C.I faced financial difficulties. D.I was very disappointed with myself.
2.How did the author and Jennie’s friendship grow? A.They both were interested in children’s education. B.They both liked a novel, The Little Prince. C.They often chatted together about their families. D.They both worked in the same school. 3.We learn from the text that __________. A.the author has the gift of seeing with the heart B.the author had no friends before meeting Jennie C.the author had lost her mother before her marriage D.the author seldom praised her son in the past 4.How does the author feel about her family?
A.No one listened to her seemingly unimportant things. B.She didn’t get along well with her husband and son. C.She once seldom spoke to her mother. D.She felt quite lonely in her family. 5.The text is mainly about _________. A.how to educate children properly
B.the fact that we should see nature differently C.the influence of friendship in life D.how friendship begins and develops

18、Koala Joey
Far away in Australia, a koala sits high in a eucalyptus tree. She grips a branch with the rough pads and sharp claws on her paws. In her pouch (小袋) she hides something special—her baby.
At birth the baby koala, called a joey, does not look like his furry mom. He is pink and bald(无毛的)and as small as a jellybean. Although he cannot see, he moves his legs and crawls. He smells milk and, without any help, starts to feel his way to his mother’s pouch. Five minutes later he slips (滑) inside.
Inside the pouch, the joey drinks his mother’s milk and grows. His eyes open. His ears form, and he hears his mother’s calls. Soon thick fur covers his body. By the time the joey is ready to explore the world, he looks like his mother.
At five months old, the joey peers out of his pouch. He eats a special soft food from his mother called pap. When the joey eats pap, he gets bacteriafrom his mother’s stomach in his tummy too. He will need the bacteria to eat eucalyptus (细菌)leaves, like grownup koalas do.
In another month, the joey leaves the pouch for the first time. He clings(贴着)to his mother’s belly while she climbs in the treetops. By the time he is eight months old, the joey no longer fits in his mother’s pouch. But he still drinks her milk.
Now, for a few hours each night, the joey climbs on his mother’s back for a ride. While riding piggyback, he reaches for eucalyptus leaves. Just like mom, he nips (咬) off leaves and chews them. The leaves have plenty of water in them, so koalas rarely go to the ground for a drink. When the joey is about one year old, his piggyback days are over. Now he climbs to the treetops by himself. On each of his front paws, he has two thumbs opposite his three fingers. He can grip branches and grab leaves.
The young koala spends more and more time away from his mother. He no longer drinks her milk. He dozes (打瞌睡,打盹) alone on tree branches. Soon he will move to another tree and live on his own. 1.When a joey is eight months old, it can _________. A.eats a food called pap B.rides on his mother’s back C.sleeps on tree branches D.clings to his mother’s belly
2.A joey stops drinking its mother’s milk when it is about_______. A.one year old B.six months old C.eight months old D.five months old 3.Paragraph 2 is mainly about_________. A.the name of a baby koala B.what a newborn koala is like C.the size of a baby koala
