1. Water

Water is one of the most important natural resources in the world. Few everyday tasks can be performed without it.

However, water resources are limited. Only 3 percent of the world’s water is fresh water. Fresh water is so precious that it is sometimes called liquid gold.

Here are some tips for saving and protecting water.

First, when we brush our teeth and wash our faces, do not let the tap run.

Second, take a shorter shower.

Third, fix any leaky tap.

Fourth, do not throw rubbish into rivers and lakes.

Remember, the less water we waste or pollute, the more we will have for tomorrow.

2. An Earthquake

Sichuan was hit by an earthquake on May 12, 2008. It was one of the most destructive natural disasters in the world.

About 69000 people were killed, about 370000 people were injured, and about 18000 people were missing. The towns were destroyed and cities were damaged.

After the earthquake, people donated money, food, clothes and water to the victims through the Red Cross.

Now Sichuan has changed a lot. From it, we can know when others are in trouble, we can give them a helping hand. When we are in trouble, we shouldn’t lose hope and courage.

3. I’m for Owning a Car

I’m for owning a car because owning a car has many advantages.

First, if a family has a car, parents’ commuting time can be shortened. Family members will have more time for work, study and fun.

Second, the whole family can go sightseeing by car at weekends. They do not have to take the crowded bus or train.

Finally, cars make our lives more comfortable.

In brief, our lives with a car will be much easier, more enjoyable and comfortable.

4. I’m against Owning a Car

I’m against owning a car because owning a car has many disadvantages.

First of all, too many cars will cause traffic jams.

In addition, cars are a source of air pollution because they give out harmful gases.

Finally, it is expensive to own a car. Car owners have to pay for car parking, repair and so on.

Therefore, it is not a good idea to own a car.

5. I’m for the Uniform Rule

I’m for the uniform rule because wearing school uniforms has quite a few advantages.

First, when we wear uniforms, we will be more careful about our behaviour.

Moreover, we look orderly in our uniforms when we do morning exercises.

In addition, we do not need to worry about what to wear every morning. We can concentrate more on our studies.

Finally, the uniform rule can prevent students from showing off their wealth.

In one word, the uniform rule must be obeyed.

6. I’m against the Uniform Rule

I’m against the uniform rule because wearing school uniforms has quite a few disadvantages.

First, I think we should have the freedom to choose what we want to wear at school. Everyone has his or her favourite clothes.

Second, I feel uneasy when I wear a uniform.

Third, students get rid of wearing the same clothes every day.

Of course, I don’t mean that we should wear name-brand clothes because name-brand are usually very expensive.

In one word, the uniform rule must be cancelled.

7. My Spending Habit

My allowance is RMB 120 a month. I spend about 30 percent on food and drinks. Another 30 percent is spent on books and entertainment. The rest is kept in a piggy bank. Sometimes I can go to the movies with my friends or buy birthday presents for my parents and friends.

I think pocket money gives a kid a sense of independence. If kids have their own money, it’s more convenient for them to buy something necessary. They don’t have to keep asking their parents for money all the time.

I think it’s impormant for kids to learn how to manage money. Of course, it doesn’t mean the more pocket money the better. I think 120 yuan a month is enough for some my age. Kids may buy something unnecessary if they have too much pocket money on them.

8. Problems in Our City

Nowadays, with the rapid population growth, it has caused many problems in our city.

First, our city is more and more crowded, so we need more buildings.

Second, more cars have cause serious air pollution. It’s harmful to people’s health. And there are so many traffic jiams on the road that they have bad effects on people’s lives.

How to deal with the problems? I think we should control the size of the city and reduce the number of cars. We should plant more trees to clean the air and drive less cars.

In brief, our city is our home. We ought to protect the environmemt around us.
